Hydro power plant gates

General Information

The generation of electricity by hydropower (potential energy in stored water) is one of the cleanest methods of producing electric power. Most widely used form of renewable energy.

Water from the reservoir is allowed to flow through the penstock to the turbine. The amount of water that is to be released in the penstock can be controlled by a control gate. When the control gate is fully opened, the maximum amount of water is released through the penstock.

For controlled flood discharge, spillway gates, commonly as radial or fixed wheel gates. For low head or run-of-river power plants, the product and service scope include all types of hydro-mechanical equipment for weirs, powerhouse inlets, and outlet structures.

In line with today’s technology, the gates are operated by hydraulic hoisting systems. The mechanical rope or the chain hoists can be provided for operational control of the gates.
